Look Up!

When it rains on
your parade,
look up rather than down.
Without the rain, there
would be no rainbow.
~~ G.K. Chesterton~~

During this long wait remember to enjoy the rainbows. They are Gods way of smiling down on us and encouraging us.

Day 13

Mark off time on your calendar for baking bread, practicing piano,or whatever stimulates your creative juices. Creative time is just like any time; if it's not scheduled, something else will probably crowd it out.

I love to bake bread and do it every Sunday. I have this beautiful piano sitting in my living room and I try to play it 1-2 times a week. Otherwise my fingers get rust and the music sounds awful. The other thing that I love to do is craft be it needlepoint on fine linen, scrap booking, or anything that looks fun I try it. I learned how to knit over Thanksgiving. It is really fun and very relaxing.

The other thing I am trying to do is Sudoku and crossword puzzles a little bit everyday to keep my mind sharp. I try to read also. I am now reading Blue Shoe by Anne LaMott.

Try to enjoy your life while we wait for our children. We must do fun things for ourselves and cherish these moments. Once our children arrive there will be less time to do all these things.

Day 12

What is Grace?

Grace takes on many forms. For some, grace is forgiveness and kindness.
For others, grace is elegance and class. For those that are religious,
grace means God's grace, a state of love and mercy. For all, grace
represents a state of being that transcends the ordinary and makes
us more understanding, more loving, and more dignified.

Use your imagination in displaying your collection of cups and saucers, bells, dolls, thimbles, and salt-and-pepper shakers. A
side table, shelf, or armoire serves beautifully, but so might a
printer's tray, a special basket, or a windowsill.

Nutcracker

How many of you have ever been to The Nutcracker? When I was little I took Ballet for about 8 years. I dreamed of dancing in the Nutcracker. It never happened. I danced in other productions like Swan Lake, Hansel and Gretel, and
Peter Pan. My mother would take my sister and I at Christmas time to see The Nutcracker. I remember getting dressed in our best velvet dresses with bows and ribbons in our hair with our shiny black patent leather shoes on. We always had winter coats even living in Southern California. We wore them between the house and car and the theater. If we left them on we would be too hot.

We would find our seats with the magical lady holding a flash light to guide us to our row. We would sit down on these cushy old velvet chairs. You would kinda sink in to them. I remember the smells of the sets, the glitter and swish of the costumes and sounds of the toe shoes on the wooden stage. The Orchestra would be magnificent and I would jump when the tympani drums be came very loud and the cymbals would crash together.

To me it was a magical day filled with awe and excitement. I would dance and twirl for days dreaming I was Claire dancing with my Nutcracker.

This year we decided to take Gabby for her first time. the Pacific Northwest Ballet company in Seattle is at the McCaw hall. The sets are done by the children's author and illustrator Maurice Sendak. The highlights are the 27 foot Mouse King, the splendid Christmas tree that grows from 14-28 feet tall, and the land of snow. There are 170 performers from the school. It was simply spectacular! Gabby was just enthralled and loved every minute of it. Brent even enjoyed it. During the admission we had sugar mouse king cookies and hot cider to drink. My parents loved taking Gabby to see this and it brought back alot of memories for my parents and myself.

Gabby all giggly and almost ready to go!

Claire sleeping and the evening begins....

Mouse King Sugar Cookie!

Our family of 3 after a wonderful show!

What was your favorite part of The Nutcracker? Mine was the dance of the Sugar Plum fairies. It was always so magical and beautiful to me. This is definitely a tradition that we will be doing with our family from now on.

Sweet Dreams.....

It has been 20 months since LID

Well it has been another 2 months since I have been on this blog to update it. Where has the time gone? I still feel like we are on a very slow boat to China!! No pun intended.

We had a wonderful holiday season with lots of family time. Very little alone time which I am now relishing. Gabby is back in school finally after 2.5 weeks off due to the snowy days before Winter break. I had grand plans to go to Leavenworth or Sun Cadia with my parents here. Very little traveling was done due to all of the snow. We did make it out to go grocery shopping, stop at Starbucks, dinner out and also go see PNW Ballet's Nutcracker. Brent and I also had a date night! We went to see Four Christmases then on to B&N to look for books and have dessert and coffee at Starbucks. It was a real treat for us.

Happy Belated Holidays to everyone! Happy 2009! May it hold wonderful things in store for us all on the trek to adopting!
